Neesham Cottage
A warm welcome awaits visitors to our delightful cottage set in the lovely area of lower Wensleydale within easy access to major highways and surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. There are many interesting and varied places to visit all within close proximity. A visit to the Lake District in the West or the Yorkshire Moors and the Coast resorts of the East or the ancient city of York are within a days tour.

The ancient town of Richmond with its castle and regimental museum in its beautiful setting at the entrance to Swaledale is only 7 miles away. Northallerton, one of the most popular Market Towns of North Yorkshire is only 14 miles.


Bedale, a typical Dales market town is only 5 miles.

Crakehall village with its interesting working water mill is just 2miles.

Thorpe Pero Arboretum and with its live eagles and owls collection and demonstrations is 5 miles.

Constable Burton Gardens are only 4 miles.


Middleham, with its once mighty castle and its important history as well as the Forbiden Corner gardens, an unusual garden fun trail for all the family.7miles.


Castle Bolton, the stonghold in Wensleydale where Mary Queen of Scotts was imprisoned. 10 miles.


Hawes, the market town at the head of Wensleydale and at the centre of the dales is only 23 miles away. Here one can visit the creamery and see the famous Wensleydale cheese (of Wallace and Gromett fame) being made and visit the Ropeworks to see traditional ropemaking and of course here is the Countryside Museum.


Hardraw Force, the highest single drop waterfall in England, is also only 23miles away.



Ripon and Fountains Abbey is just 15 miles.York 31 miles. The ancient capital of the North with its Roman walls etc. its magnificent Minster and Viking Museum.

The Spa Town of Harrogate is only 45 minutes away. Knaresborough with its ancient castle and Old Mother Shipton Cave and Petrified Wishing Well are just haif an hours drive away.

Helmsley, Reveaugh Abbey and the North Yorkshire Moors all within an easy days meander.

The Yorkshire coast Resorts of Filey, Bridlington, Scarborough,Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes etc. are all within a days tour.

Reeth and the beautiful Swaledale is just 12 miles away.

High Force and the wild beauty of the moors around Middleton in Teesdale just a short trip away.

Meander round Wharfedale, Dentdale or Garsdale, all within 30 miles distance.


Visit the Lake District or Morecombe on the West Coast. A lovely day trip.

The main A1 North Road is just six miles away, giving easy access to travellers North to South Boroughbridge and the remains of the Brigantes Roman town at Aldwark is less than half an hour drive.

There are an abundance of lovely walks in the area that cater for all abilities and horse riding and pony trecking.

The nearest Golf coarse is half a mile away at Akebar and is open to the public, with an excellent driving range. There is also a golf coarse at Bedale.
